Warm-Up (5 min)

WARM-UP: We have spent 3 weeks in Agriculture. Has your view of "ag careers" changed since Week 1? In one sentence, how?

Take 4 student responses. Some students will say their view changed (they now see drones and biology, not just farming); some will say it didn't change. Both are valid, the goal of CCE is informed clarity.

Activity 1: Xello Interests Lesson (20 min)

Source: Xello 7th-Grade Lesson, "Interests Lesson"

Open Xello on the projector. Walk students through finding the Interests lesson:

  1. From the Xello dashboard, click Lessons
  2. Find "Interests" or "Discover Your Interests" in the 7th-grade lesson list
  3. Click Start or Continue

Students complete the Xello Interests lesson on their own Chromebooks. The lesson typically:

  • Asks students to rate activities they enjoy (working outdoors, working with technology, helping people, building things, solving puzzles)
  • Generates a personal interest profile based on their responses
  • Recommends career clusters and specific careers that match their profile

After the lesson, students write 2 sentences in their notebook:

  • Sentence 1: "Xello's top interest area for me is _____."
  • Sentence 2: "One career Xello recommended that connects to what I learned this week is _____."

Connection prompt: Did Xello recommend any environmental or agricultural careers? If yes, that's a strong signal about their fit. If no, that's also useful data.

Facilitation Tip

Some students will rush through Xello to "finish faster." Encourage them: "The more honest your answers, the better the recommendations. Garbage in, garbage out."

Activity 2: eDynamic Unit 7.1: Progressive and Adaptable (15 min)

Source: eDynamic Learning. Unit 7.1: Progressive and Adaptable (covers Agriculture, Energy, and Health Science clusters)

Direct students to log into eDynamic Learning and navigate to Unit 7.1: Progressive and Adaptable. This unit reinforces the Agriculture cluster content from this six weeks and connects it to two other clusters (Energy and Health Science) that students explored earlier in the year.

[VERIFY IN eDynamic] Confirm with your district that Unit 7.1 is enabled and accessible to 7th-grade students. Verify the unit covers Agriculture content as expected. If the unit is unavailable, use this fallback: students move Activity 3 (3-Week Ag Reflection) forward to this slot and then research ONE real ag-tech company (e.g., Hylio, Skydio, DJI Agriculture) using BLS Environmental Engineers, BLS Agricultural Engineers, or climatekids.nasa.gov. Each student writes 2 sentences: what the company does + what careers it employs. Same 15-min budget, no scramble needed.

Students work through Unit 7.1 at their own pace for 15 minutes. The goal is to make meaningful progress, not necessarily finish. Unit 7.1 may continue into Week 4 or beyond.

Differentiation

Some students may finish Unit 7.1 quickly; others may need more time. The eDynamic platform tracks individual progress, so this is fine. The goal is exposure to the content, not race-to-finish.

Activity 3: 3-Week Agriculture Reflection (8 min)

After Xello and eDynamic, students take 5 minutes to write a 3-sentence reflection on the entire 3-week Agriculture cluster journey:

  • Sentence 1: "The most interesting Ag career I learned about over the past 3 weeks is _____."
  • Sentence 2: "The Ag activity I enjoyed most was _ because ___."
  • Sentence 3: "If I were to pursue an Ag pathway, I would most likely choose _ because ___."

These reflections are short but valuable, they capture student thinking at the cluster transition before moving into Hospitality next week.

DOK 3: Based on the past 3 weeks of activities (Vet Science, Plant Science, Sustainable Engineering), which Agriculture pathway has the strongest career future in Texas? Defend your answer with evidence from this week's drone activity AND the BLS data from earlier weeks.

Exit Ticket (2 min)

EXIT TICKET (Concept Map / Connection Diagram) · Printable PDF:

My FAVORITE Agriculture cluster career after 3 weeks (Vet Science + Plant Science + Sustainable Engineering): _____

Connect this career to THREE things:

1. Xello's TOP recommended interest area for me today

My top Xello interest area: _____. Does this area match my favorited career? Circle: YES / NO. One sentence why:

2. An Irving ISD pathway at Nimitz HS (Vet Science → Elanco, Plant Science → Texas Certified Landscape Associate, OR Sustainable Engineering → AutoDesk CAD-Inventor)

My pathway: _____. One sentence on why it connects to my favorited career:

3. The 3SW cluster pattern I see in myself

One sentence on what kind of Ag work draws me most (indoor / outdoor / tech-heavy / science-heavy / communication-heavy):

(d(1)(A), d(1)(C))

Submit your Xello Interests completion screenshot + 3-sentence reflection with this ticket.

Differentiation

  • Support: Sentence stems for the 3-week reflection. Pre-fill the second sentence template: "The activity I enjoyed most was the _ activity because ___."
  • Extension: Connect your favorite Ag career to a real Irving ISD pathway (Nimitz Vet Science, Nimitz Plant Science, Nimitz Sustainable Engineering). Which pathway would prepare you for it best?
  • ELL: Pre-teach: Interest = Interés, Adaptable = Adaptable, Reflection = Reflexión. Xello and eDynamic both support Spanish, show language toggles if needed.
