6th Six Weeks | 5 class periods | 50 minutes each
Weekly Target
Students work through one fictional hiring case from posting screen to interview follow-up. They sequence a safe job search, tailor a cover letter, complete a sample application, apply reference protocol, prepare for an interview, participate as interviewer and interviewee, revise from feedback, and write a thank-you note.
TEKS Evidence
- d(6)(A): safe seven-step search and posting-screening decision, Day 1.
- d(7)(B): tailored cover letter and thank-you correspondence, Days 2 and 5.
- d(7)(C): complete fictional sample application, Day 3.
- d(7)(D): reference-role selection and permission-before-sharing protocol, Day 3.
- d(6)(B): workplace, task, safety, format, technology, and access interview-readiness decisions, Days 4-5.
- d(6)(C): assessable interviewer and interviewee evidence, Day 5.
Required Case and Privacy Boundary
The core case is Pecan Creek Animal Care - Student Office Assistant, with fictional applicant Jordan Rivera and an example.com address. The fixed case keeps the work consistent and gives every student the same evidence to reason from.
Students do not enter or submit a real address, phone or email, birth date, student or driver ID, Social Security number, banking or tax data, signature, immigration, health, disability, religion, family information, schedule constraints, or another person's contact information. They do not send an application, permission request, cover letter, or thank-you note and do not contact an employer. FYF Rung 5, Xello Job Interviews, H&L, CareerOneStop tools, and live job boards may extend the lesson after teacher screening; none is required evidence.
Week at a Glance
| Day | Focus | Evidence | Default Canvas route |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Search process and posting screen | Two-page decision record | Private Student Annotation |
| 2 | Tailored cover letter | Three-page plan, draft, and final | Private text, annotation, or upload |
| 3 | Application and references | Four-page fictional form and protocol | Private Student Annotation |
| 4 | Interview preparation | Three-page rehearsal planner + practice feedback | Unlimited-retry practice Quiz |
| 5 | Mock interview and follow-up | Four-page role, revision, and thank-you record | Private Major 1 Assignment |
The two-page rubric is posted before Day 2. Earlier practice submissions remain where students completed them; students do not upload the same packet again on Day 5.
Teacher Readiness
Post the paired Teacher and Student Guides, named packet or Quiz, and timer. The Teacher Guide contains the fixed case facts, models, answer boundaries, monitoring look-fors, trim point, and absence route. Digital annotation, typed labeled responses, upload, dictation, enlarged print, paper, teacher conference, private recording, and AAC are available when the task calls for them. Pair work supports practice but never determines access to the evidence.
Default printing is zero when students can annotate or type in Canvas. For paper sections, print only the day's packet. Do not print the complete week at once.
Assessment Status
The student-visible six-criterion rubric totals 24 raw points and publishes the raw-score-to-percentage conversion. Day 5 is Major 1 in the 6SW assessment map. Canvas records 100 points in Major Assessments (60%); all practice collectors remain 0 points, omitted from the final grade, and unpublished.
Score the six evidence jobs: search/posting screen, cover letter, application, references, mock interview, and thank-you correspondence. Do not score accent, eye contact, handshake, camera use, clothing cost or style, disability, public confidence, paid work history, or English mechanics unless meaning is unclear.
Current Teacher Sources
- CareerOneStop Job Search, Cover Letters, Job Applications, References, Interview Preparation, and Follow-Up guidance.
- EEOC pre-employment guidance for protected, medical, and unrelated personal questions.
- Xello Job Interviews as an optional licensed extension in authenticated Canvas when available.
Access and Absence
All required facts and prompts are inside the Canvas pages and packets. A student who misses paired practice uses a teacher conference, small group, private recording, AAC, or scheduled make-up. Written interviewer notes may show the interviewer role; the interviewee standard still requires an assessable spoken or accommodation-aligned communicated response. No family adult, real employer, public Discussion, camera, personal-data disclosure, or external login is required.
