Leadership Strategies
Your team explains how it would handle a challenge faced by TSA chapter leaders.
What you make or do
- Choose one of three topics offered at the event and work together to prepare a response in fifteen minutes.
- Give a three-to-five-minute presentation in which every team member participates. Any speaking notes must be written during preparation.
This year’s challenge
There is no separate annual theme listed. The topic is selected at the conference from challenges that TSA chapter officers might face. The guide's examples are practice topics.
How the competition works
Before the event
Practice discussing leadership challenges and speaking as a team. Bring the required writing pens; the actual topic and presentation notes are developed at the event.
First round
Select a topic, prepare for fifteen minutes, and present your team's response to the judges.
If you advance
Repeat the process with a different set of topics. Semifinal scores start fresh and are not added to the preliminary scores.
Know before you choose: You cannot bring reference materials or use electronic devices in the preparation or presentation rooms. Each teammate must participate in the presentation.
How your work is scored
Judges evaluate the presentation using the official rating form. The quality of the response and its delivery matter, and speaking outside the three-to-five-minute limit causes a deduction.
