Team of 2 · Tests and practical demonstration

Forensic Technology

You and a partner will demonstrate a forensic science skill.

You prepare three skill areas. You take individual tests. You demonstrate one skill if you advance.

What you make or do

  • Prepare for individual tests on forensic science theory.
  • Practice all three annual skill areas so you can demonstrate the selected skill and answer judges' questions if you advance.

This year’s challenge

The 2027 skill areas are forensic biology and genetics, toxicology, and forensic psychology. Prepare for all three; one is selected for the semifinal demonstration.

How the competition works

Before the event

Study forensic science and practice the three annual skill areas. Plan and bring the supplies needed for the demonstration; each teammate also needs a laptop for the online test.

First round

Both teammates take the one-hour test individually. Their average score determines advancement, and you receive the selected demonstration skill when the test ends.

If you advance

Set up for five minutes, demonstrate the skill for seven minutes, and answer questions for three minutes. You also have three minutes to clean up.

Know before you choose: National TSA does not provide your demonstration supplies, and reference materials are not allowed during the event.

How your work is scored

The average test score contributes to the result. Judges also assess scientific knowledge, proper technique, the demonstration, clear explanation, and both teammates' participation.
