- Objective: Students will identify how one skill transfers between veterinary work and another career by completing Xello Skills and a private evidence reflection.
- TEKS: d(4)(B)
- Demonstration of Learning: Xello Completion Standards report and a private reflection comparing how one skill appears in veterinary work and another career.
Canvas is authoritative. This Markdown page is a source backup for the unpublished Canvas Teacher Facilitator Guide and Student Guide.
50-minute plan
- Think-Pair-Share -- 4 minutes: Define a transferable skill and name two places it can be used.
- Required Xello Skills lesson -- 35 minutes: ClassLink > Xello > Home > Lessons > Skills.
- Private reflection -- 8 minutes: Name one current skill, how it appears in veterinary work, and how it transfers to a different career.
- Verify or record catch-up -- 3 minutes: The teacher verifies the Completion Standards report or records a supervised catch-up need.
The assigned Grade 8 task is Skills lesson. Students need at least three saved careers. The official six-page Xello facilitator guide describes an extended 85-minute sequence; the district minimum remains the assigned 35-minute lesson. Life experiences and Volunteer hours are not repeated here.
Paper supports learning when Xello is unavailable, but it does not replace platform completion. Do not require profile screenshots or public sharing of results.
Evidence and supports
- Xello Completion Standards report
- private Xello Skills reflection, typed or on the supplied PDF
- ClassLink-adapted official Xello slide deck
- bilingual labels, read-aloud, chunking, and an optional Spanish support deck
- supervised catch-up when the platform or prerequisite is unavailable
Next-day setup and monitoring
- Students: one internet-connected device and headphones per student; provide the one-page reflection digitally or print one copy only for students using the paper route.
- Teacher: one report-access device, one display device, the official facilitator guide, the Irving-adapted slides, and the optional Spanish support deck. Student work and reflection remain individual and private.
- Minute 4 check: verify ClassLink access and the three-saved-careers prerequisite before releasing the class. Students who are blocked select one teacher-provided skill on the reflection, mark the supervised catch-up box, and complete the transfer thinking without claiming Xello completion.
- Minute 20 checkpoint: students should be inside the Skills lesson. If more than one-fourth of the class is still navigating, stop and project the numbered route once.
- Pivot: when Xello is unavailable, use observation, communication, problem solving, teamwork, or organization as the temporary skill bank and schedule supervised platform catch-up. Paper supports the reflection; it does not replace the assigned Xello completion.
- Trim: omit optional discussion and extended-guide activities. Preserve the assigned 35-minute lesson, private reflection, and verification/catch-up record.
