- Prepare a printed research portfolio with an issue explanation, supporting evidence, references, work log, and any required photo consent forms.
This year’s challenge

How the competition works
Before the event
Research the current theme and build your display and portfolio. Prepare three team representatives to explain the work if you advance.
First round
Bring the display and portfolio to the conference. Judges assess the displays first and then the portfolios of the highest-ranking entries.
If you advance
Three team members give a seven-minute presentation and answer questions for two minutes, with one minute for setup.
Know before you choose: This is a research-and-explanation event. The display cannot contain liquids, viruses, live plants, or animals.
How your work is scored
Judges assess your explanation, research, supporting evidence, display design, and portfolio. If you advance, they also assess your knowledge and presentation.
