Team of 2 · Device + portfolio
Mechanical Engineering
Build a catapult that hits its target.
What you make or do
- A working catapult that meets the event specifications.
- A documentation portfolio with your design process, materials list, drawings, references, and work log.
This year’s challenge
For 2027, the front of the cornhole board is nine feet from the firing line. Both teammates must launch bags.
How the competition works
Before the event
Design, build, and test your catapult, and finish the documentation portfolio before check-in.
First round
Bring both the catapult and portfolio. After a safety inspection, launch cornhole bags in a timed scoring round.
If you advance
Your portfolio is judged, and your team competes in head-to-head launch rounds.
Know before you choose: The catapult and portfolio are both required at check-in, even though the portfolio is judged later.
How your work is scored
Your launch performance earns points. If you advance, portfolio and bracket scores also contribute.
