Pitching Lesson 0 — Logo Design Launch
Daily Learning Contract
Topic: Visual communication principles in logo design
Objective: Students will explain how simplicity, color, and symbolism help a logo communicate identity.
TEKS: No independent Grade 8 Technology Applications TEKS claim. This lesson provides operational, preparatory, or cross-curricular evidence.
Demonstration of learning: Completed EdPuzzle responses and one design intention that names a principle the student will apply in the next lesson.
Before class
- Reconnect and test the EdPuzzle with the class code; turn on captions and preview the questions.
- Project two recognizable, simple logos and prepare the three-color constraint for tomorrow.
- Keep the current module guide’s EdPuzzle fallback available if the external tool is unavailable.
Five-part lesson flow
- Launch: Show one recognizable logo and ask what it communicates without words.
- Frame: Explain why the video comes before making a personal logo and preview tomorrow’s name, icon, and three-color rule.
- Watch and respond: Students complete the video questions with captions and rewind available.
- Debrief: Connect two video design choices to the personal-logo criteria.
- Evidence: Verify EdPuzzle completion and collect one design intention for the next lesson.
Check before students leave
Every student has completed the video or has a documented fallback path and can name one choice they will make in their own logo.
Support without lowering the thinking
Use captioning, replay, and a visual logo comparison. Allow a student to say or draw the design intention rather than requiring a written sentence.
