AIR Unit 0 Day 5 — Explain the Connected System

Use this page to run the lesson. The student item directly below remains the independent and absence route.

Daily Learning Contract

Topic: Connected smart systems and human judgment

Objective: Students will explain how a user need, physical robot, input and output, algorithm, learned model, and human judgment work together as one smart system.

TEKS:
  • §126.19(c)(12)(A) — integrate use of appropriate technology terminology in scholarly inquiry and dialogue such as classroom discussion and written samples;

Demonstration of learning: Mission Log page 4 explanation that accurately connects the robot, algorithm, model, input and output, user need, and point for human judgment.

Before class

Time: One class period

Student route:
Day 5 · Explain the Complete Smart System

Use what already exists: Completed Mission Log pages 1–3; current Day 5 page; AIR Unit 0 teacher deck.

Lesson flow

  1. Launch: Retrieve the four system parts from prior days.
  2. Model: Model a complete explanation and contrast it with one missing the human check.
  3. Do: Students finish page 4 and rehearse the explanation with a partner.
  4. Check + support: Check every required connection; provide a labeled diagram and complete sentence frame.
  5. Close + handoff: Collect the full Mission Log and transition to image classification.

Check before students leave

Ask each student or team to point to the specific evidence named above and explain one choice, test, or revision. Completion alone is not evidence of understanding.

Support + troubleshooting

Scaffold: Keep the visual task sequence visible, assign purposeful partner roles, and use the sentence stems on the student page before simplifying the task.

When stuck: Ask students to show the exact step where the system stopped, then check setup, inputs, and saved work before replacing the task.
