⚠️ The 90-or-above rule is not enforced by Canvas

The first EdPuzzle tells students they need 90 or higher before they may use a micro:bit, and that is the gate protecting your hardware. Both EdPuzzle items are external tool launches set to 0 points in Canvas, so the score never reaches your gradebook. Check it in the EdPuzzle dashboard before you hand out boards, or the rule is a suggestion. What sits behind the gate is all of the graded work: the four Do lessons, including Do: Lesson 4 at 100 points, the module’s Major grade.

Materials + prep

  • Physical micro:bits counted against your roster before Lesson 1, with battery packs and fresh batteries or USB data cables. A charge-only cable will not flash a board, and that failure looks exactly like broken code.
  • Lesson 3 needs two boards talking — plan the pairing before that day, not during it. Whatever grouping you set in Lesson 1, keep it, so partners are not relearning the board each lesson.
  • The four worksheets are linked inside the Do assignments as Google Docs that hand over a copy the moment a student clicks. Open all four yourself first and confirm they copy from a student account.
  • EdPuzzle roster ready before Lesson 1, and pop-ups allowed on student devices — EdPuzzle, the Learn launches and MakeCode all open outside Canvas.
  • Printables live on the lesson guide pages — presentation, worksheet and printable checkpoint for each lesson, if you would rather teach it live than send students through Articulate RISE.
  • Background reading before you teach the strand: the program’s facilitator guide for Coding Adventures (Google Doc).

Watch-fors

  • A blank Learn page is not a broken Learn page. All four Learn items are external tool launches into Articulate RISE. Their Canvas description is empty on purpose — the lesson lives inside the launch. Click through one yourself before class and do not spend an evening trying to fill a page that is meant to be empty.
  • The story is load-bearing. Do not skip Lesson 1’s setup. VilBot is introduced in Lesson 1, her sidekick Mr. Whiskers is who the Lesson 3 radio messages are sent to, and her cousin LilBot is who the Lesson 4 game is built for. Start at Lesson 3 and the names arrive with no one attached to them.
  • Check publication before class. The EdPuzzle, Learn and Do items are already published; all four checkpoint quizzes, all five guide pages and the module itself are not. Walk the list once before you open it to students, or your class finishes Lesson 1 and finds no checkpoint.
  • Lesson 4 is not a fourth ordinary lesson. Its checkpoint is 10 questions where the others are 3 or 4, and its Do is an open build after a guided one. Leave more room for it than the run sheet’s minimum, and expect the invent-your-own-game half to run into a second period.

Grading — 135 points

Do: Lesson 4 is the module’s Major grade, at 100 points. The other three Do assignments are Minor grades, 5 points each (15 total). All four are graded on the finished worksheet, uploaded as a file or as a share link.

✓ Checkpoints are 4, 3, 3 and 10 points for Lessons 1 through 4, all Minor grades — one point per question, unlimited retakes, highest score kept. The Lesson 4 checkpoint is half the checkpoint points on its own.

✓ The four Learn items are 0 points — completion happens inside RISE.

Both EdPuzzles are 0 points. That is deliberate here, but it does mean the 90-percent hardware gate lives in EdPuzzle and nowhere else. If you want it in the gradebook, set the points yourself.
