Ten lessons that move from block coding and debugging into one published HTML/CSS page.

The Canvas lessons are the independent and absence route. Download the 49-slide Intro to CS: Code + Web teacher deck · Make a Google copy when you want to teach the complete ten-day sequence from the front of the room.

  • Days 1 to 4: slides 3 to 21, algorithms, coding patterns, debugging, and computer systems
  • Days 5 and 6: slides 22 to 31, HTML and the Beginner Guide plan
  • Days 7 and 8: slides 32 to 40, HTML prototype and CSS for hierarchy
  • Days 9 and 10: slides 41 to 49, user testing, revision, showcase, and reflection

What students make

Students finish with a web page they structured in HTML, styled in CSS, tested, published, and explained during a short presentation. Days 1 through 6 build the skills. Days 7 and 9 are mini-project checkpoints. Day 10 is the 100-point major assessment.

Code.org check for 2027

The exact Express 2025 and CS Discoveries 2026 lesson links in this module returned successfully on August 9, 2026. Code.org says CS Discoveries remains accessible, but recommends AI Discoveries for schools planning 2026-27 courses.

This module keeps CS Discoveries because the S&S specifically maps the two-week sequence to its computing and web-development lessons. Before teaching, open every lesson from a student account. If the district moves to AI Discoveries, remap the full sequence and its evidence instead of swapping isolated URLs.

Setup

  • Create a Code.org class section and give students its join process before Day 1.
  • Test Web Lab sharing from a student account before Day 7. The published link must open outside the student account.
  • Decide whether students will write reflections in English, Spanish, or either language. The page provides both sets of directions.
  • Make sure screenshots are readable. Students may use the Chromebook screenshot shortcut instead of photographing the screen.
  • Check the Day 10 rubric before the unit begins. Its four categories are the published page, walkthrough, gallery feedback, and reflection.
  • Confirm that Xello's Skills lesson is available through ClassLink and that students have the required saved-career work from the earlier check-in.

What to look for while students work

  • A student who is not signed in may lose progress.
  • A screenshot proves completion, not understanding. Ask students to name the bug, sequence, input/output relationship, or HTML choice shown in their work.
  • Days 7, 9, and 10 depend on a working published link. Have students test it in a new tab before submission.
  • Do not let color and font choices hide broken HTML. Structure comes before style.
