Emoji Design Challenge • Step 2 of 4

✏️ IDEATE

Sketch it. Choose it. Pitch it.

🎯 TODAY YOU WILL:

✅ Draw 2 thumbnail sketches of your emoji concept

✅ Pick one direction and write your pitch sentence

✅ Start experimenting with shapes in Canva

⚠️ You need teacher approval on your Define Form before starting today's work.

Bell Ringer

Read your Define submission to your neighbor. Do they think it's a good idea? Why or why not?

1

Sketch Two Ideas

On your worksheet, draw 2 rough thumbnails of how your emoji could look. Label key features (eyes, color, expression).

Idea A

Sketch + notes

Idea B

Sketch + notes

💡 Think about what simple shapes make up your emoji. A face = circles + ovals. A taco = triangle + ovals + lines.

2

Choose Your Direction

Pick Idea A or B. On your worksheet, write which one and why.

3

Write Your Pitch

This sentence will go on your showcase slide. Make it count.

"My emoji is called _____. It represents _____. It should be added to Unicode because _____."

🎨 Shapes-Only Rule

Your teacher will demo how to build an emoji from scratch in Canva using only shapes.

✅ Circles, rectangles, triangles, lines

✅ Combo App (union, subtract, etc.)

🚫 NO pre-made icons or stickers

🚫 NO templates or uploaded clipart

If you didn't build it with shape tools, you can't use it.

💻 Open Work Time

Open Canva and start experimenting. Test whether your sketch works digitally.

Still sketching on paper? That's fine. Take your time.

Already building? Great. Keep going into prototype mode.

🎯 END OF DAY 2 CHECKPOINT

Quick self-check: I have a clear concept. I know what shapes I need. I'm ready to prototype.

Actividad de entrada

Lee tu formulario de Definición a tu compañero/a. ¿Piensa que es buena idea? ¿Por qué sí o no?

1

Dibuja Dos Ideas

En tu hoja, dibuja 2 bocetos rápidos de cómo podría verse tu emoji. Etiqueta las partes clave (ojos, color, expresión).

Idea A

Boceto + notas

Idea B

Boceto + notas

💡 Piensa en qué figuras simples forman tu emoji. Una cara = círculos + óvalos. Un taco = triángulo + óvalos + líneas.

2

Elige Tu Dirección

Escoge Idea A o B. En tu hoja, escribe cuál elegiste y por qué.

3

Escribe Tu Pitch

Esta oración irá en tu slide de presentación.

"My emoji is called _____. It represents _____. It should be added to Unicode because _____."

El pitch se escribe en inglés para tu slide.

🎨 Regla: Solo Figuras

Tu maestro/a hará una demostración de cómo construir un emoji desde cero en Canva usando solo figuras.

✅ Círculos, rectángulos, triángulos, líneas

✅ App Combo (union, subtract, etc.)

🚫 NO íconos ni stickers pre-hechos

🚫 NO plantillas ni clipart subido

Si no lo dibujaste con herramientas de figuras, no lo puedes usar.

💻 Tiempo de Trabajo

Abre Canva y empieza a experimentar. Prueba si tu boceto funciona en digital.

¿Todavía dibujando en papel? Está bien. Tómate tu tiempo.

¿Ya construyendo? Sigue. Entra en modo prototipo.

🎯 CHECKPOINT DEL DÍA 2

Auto-revisión: Tengo un concepto claro. Sé qué figuras necesito. Estoy listo/a para prototipar.
